About Dax 30 German Stock Index
The DAX (Deutscher Aktienindex) is the most important index made up of 30 largest German registered companies and it is the leading index of the Deutsche Börse. The DAX 30 was only introduced in June 1988; replaced the older Hardy Index and the Börsen-Zeitung index. although the DAX did not yet exist at this time. The baseline value was established at 1,163.52 points in 1987.
The DAX 30 is the German blue-chip index and consists of the 30 German companies in terms of their highest market capitalization. The DAX 30 represent around 79% of the entire market capitalization traded on the German stock exchange. Because of this the DAX 30 and its performance are also considered as an indicator for the German share market as a whole.
With a view to being included in the DAX 30, a company should fulfill certain criteria. For example, shares must be listed in the Prime Standard of the Deutsche Börse. In this exchange segment, companies must meet specific international transparency requirements. For example, the companies must present regular quarterly reports and annual financial statements as well as hold an annual analyst conference. In addition, ad hoc reports must be published in German and English. The composition of the DAX 30 and the weighting of the shares included in it are reviewed once annually and adjusted when necessary. The adjustments are always made in September after the close of trading.
How DAX 30 Index Calculated?
Prices are taken from an electronic trading system Xetra trading venue to calculate the DAX Index. A free-float procedure is utilized to evaluate the index weightings along with a measure of the average trading volume.
What Time Does DAX 30 Open?
The DAX 30 is traded each trading day on the German Stock Exchange or Frankfurt Stock Exchange during Xetra trading hours between 10:00 am and 6:30 pm CET; the index level is calculated and updated once a second in real time.
