The best iPad deals: $30 off the brand-new 10.2-inch model and more

Plus Amazon's discounts on the Pro models.

Apple's new 10.2-inch iPad, released just last month, went on sale before it even hit store shelves. The new tablet picks up where the sixth-gen iPad left off, starting at $329, but with a slightly larger display and a dock connection. Amazon is currently selling the 32GB model for $9 off and the 128GB version for $29 under the list price.

Otherwise, the best deal at the moment is on the iPad Pro. Amazon has the 256GB 12.9-inch model discounted by $200, bringing it down to $950 -- virtually the same price we're seeing for the entry-level 64GB version -- and the 11-inch model down to $674.

If you're considering picking up a new iPad, there are two things to keep in mind. First, the "new" 2019 iPad is pretty much identical to its 2018 predecessor -- except for the slightly larger screen and keyboard dock connector. Otherwise, they're virtually the same tablet. Second, now that the 10.2-inch iPad has begun shipping, retailers may begin making adjustments to the prices of other models in the lineup. We'll be watching closely to see how that plays out.

It's quite possible that the 9.7-inch model will disappear in the coming weeks. It's technically discontinued. But that hasn't stopped other Apple products from living long, productive lives on the shelves of third-party retailers. One potential scenario: Those retailers could further cut the price of the old 32GB model to $220 and discount the new 32GB 10.2-inch model to $280. (This is all conjecture.) Or perhaps the entry-level 10.2-inch model picks up where the entry-level 9.7-inch model left off, settling in to a permanently discounted price of $250 price by Black Friday. Bottom line: Definitely don't pay more than $250 for the 32GB version of either of them.

Otherwise, the current deals on the newer iPad Mini and iPad Air remain negligible. We'd recommend waiting for the next round of discounts to come through before buying either one of them.

Note that we're focused on the Wi-Fi versions of the iPad here. Using LTE on a tablet is cool but, for most people, not worth the additional cost -- for the device and the monthly service -- especially when you can easily tether your phone for free.

The 12.9-inch iPad Pro is the Cadillac of Apple's tablet lineup and, arguably, the entire tablet category. We've seen the 64GB model priced as low as $800. But Amazon is selling the 256GB model for $950 right now -- that's a solid deal. (Note that the sale price will show up in your cart at checkout.) Read the iPad Pro review
